RECS Day 5, cont. - Visit to Citronelle Dome CO2 Storage Site

June 10th - The Citronelle Oil Field, operated by Denbury Resources, is the site of SECARB’s Phase III “Anthropogenic Test,” a fully integrated CCS project that will inject CO2 from Alabama Power’s Plant Barry CO2 Capture Demonstration Unit.  It took the RECS bus about 40 minutes to arrive at the site from Plant Barry but the pipeline, which is currently being built, will cut across about 12 miles of land.

Upon arriving at the site, SECARB’s Dave Riestenberg (Advanced Resources International, Inc.) discussed the regional stratigraphy and storage site characterization. The RECS group then walked to the CO2 injection site where a CO2 injector and monitoring wells will be drilled.

Many RECS participants agreed that the program’s highlight was Day 5, and the opportunity to visit the field sites associated with the nation’s first integrated large-scale CCS project. Special thanks to Alabama Power, Southern Company and SECARB!
